For quite some time now, we have been considering opening a winter location suitable for kitesurfing, classic wave surfing, and wave kiteboarding with a wave board. The Canary Islands offer us beautiful temperatures throughout the entire 12 months of the year, and you could say there is no off-season here. If there’s no wind, you have waves, beautiful beaches, the ocean, and the variety that the island of Fuerteventura offers. Fuerteventura should be on your list of places to visit for kiteboarding and surfing.
Are you ready for your next advancement in kitesurfing?

Kitesurf Spots in Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura offers plenty of spots for kite surfing, with excellent wind statistics and locations suitable for kiters of all levels.
Best kitesurfing spots in Fuerteventura
Flag Beach
The kite spot at Flag Beach is one of the most famous on the island and is just a 5-minute drive from the center of Corralejo, Fuerteventura - North. It enjoys calm waters as it is sheltered from northern waves by the Lobos Islands. Large swells are rare here unless a massive northeast swell comes through. Strong easterly trade winds make this spot excellent for beautiful waves. It works best with a southwest wind and during high tide. Be cautious of rocks that may unexpectedly emerge when entering or exiting the water, especially at low tide.
The access to the water is easy, the beach is spacious, sandy, and full of people willing to help. During the peak kitesurfing season on Fuerteventura, a side wind of 15 to 20 knots blows every day. It is a perfect spot for beginner kitesurfing on Fuerteventura.
Costa Calma – Fuerteventura South
Although the south does not have the authentic Fuerteventura atmosphere, it offers excellent kite surfing spots for beginners. It is a flat area for kiteboarding with occasional waves, and during the windy season in Fuerteventura, it experiences a constant wind of 15 to 28 knots. The further north the wind blows, the more gusty it becomes due to the massive tourist resorts built in front of the beach.
Sotavento Lagoon (Days of high tide)
One of the island's most famous spots, where world kite surfing competitions have been held. The wind blows at 20-30 knots (offshore/sideshore) and can be quite gusty. A unique feature of this spot is that when the tide coefficients at Sotavento are high, the lagoon fills up, creating a massive flat-water kite surfing area ideal for beginners. Check this link to find out when you can kite at Sotavento Lagoon. The beach and lagoon are so vast that they can safely accommodate hundreds of kitesurfers without issue.
When the lagoon is not functioning, this kite surfing spot is not suitable for beginners due to the wind direction and its gusty nature.
El Cotillo, Piedra Playa – Beach Break
El Cotillo is a kite surfing spot in Fuerteventura recommended for kite surfers who enjoy fast waves. It features a beach break with waves that break close to shore at high tide. In the middle of the beach, there is a designated area for kite surfing. This spot offers the opportunity to ride western and northern waves, which get larger in winter, making it a paradise for strapless kitesurfing. The wind can easily shift offshore, but there are plenty of days with northern onshore winds. The entry to the water is easy, and it is rarely crowded as you have to navigate through the shore.
Majanicho – North Coast of Fuerteventura
Majanicho is one of the best kite wave spots in Fuerteventura, located in a bay that smooths out the water, with often huge and clean waves. You'll find kite surfers, windsurfers, and surfers here. It is one of the most popular wave kite surfing spots on the island, offering every inch of its space. However, be cautious as the waves can be massive; don't be deceived from the beach, but you can ride long right-hand waves. Access is a bit rocky and much easier at high tide.
El Burro (Glasbeach) – East Coast of Fuerteventura
Kite surfing at El Burro promises big waves, strong winds, and frequent swells. The wave breaks over a shallow reef, offering long left-handers and consistent onshore winds. It requires a strong northeast swell to get going or good wind swirls and southeast winds. There is a bay that makes entry very easy, but be cautious of rocks and sea urchins.
